The expert’s guide to serving Aberfeldy single malt Scotch whiskey in style

Indeed, although careful pouring is the basis of whiskey tasting, Stéphanie is quick to remind us that there is no one right way to enjoy whiskey. Beyond just the basic pour, whiskey drinkers may also want to try a whiskey on the rocks, or even in a simple cocktail such as a highball. After all, whiskey is multidimensional and dynamic: each way of serving it brings out different aspects of its profile.

To serve whiskey with ice, you will of course need to use a rocks glass, which has a wider opening than a snifter. Ice can make whiskey more enjoyable, while allowing you to experience different flavors and aromas. As the ice melts, it slowly dilutes the whiskey, softening the bite of the alcohol and opening up its more subtle notes, like hints of fruit, honey or spice, which might not be as pronounced when served pure. This gradual change in temperature and dilution creates a more refreshing experience, ideal for hot days.

“Whatever your method of drinking whiskey, don’t be afraid to make it yourself: everyone is different and has different flavor preferences,” adds Macleod. “Whiskey is not made to serve in a ceremony. It’s made to be enjoyed however you prefer. I’m not a big cocktail drinker, but I like to experiment. Sometimes I prefer a very simple cocktail like a Highball, because it’s deliciously understated.

For those who like a touch of fizz, try a classic whiskey highball. In a tall, thin highball glass, mix one shot of whiskey with ice and top it with chilled soda water, stirring gently to combine. This refreshing option is perfect for highlighting the lighter, floral notes of whiskey while keeping its essential character intact. Bubbles add a lively touch, making it a great choice for social gatherings or a relaxing evening. For a party, you can measure the whiskey into each highball glass, then simply add the ice and soda when serving.

“Whether it’s handcrafting single malt whiskey or handcrafting a custom jacket, it’s about doing the best thing, however it’s done », notes Macleod. “I am so thrilled that we have embarked on this special collaboration to create what we believe is the perfect reflection of our dedication to craftsmanship.”

Just like the whiskey itself, the jacket is the result of thoughtful craftsmanship. The design features subtle honeycomb accents, a nod to the golden tones and honeyed notes of Aberfeldy. It’s a garment that reflects the same values that drive the whiskey-making process: a commitment to quality, tradition and perhaps a certain sense of occasion.
