Maple Leafs vs. Kraken NHL Predictions, Picks and Odds

Mitch Marner has been a constant presence on the Leafs’ top power play line, who should soon get lucky with the puck. Marner could be in line to score in PP against a Kraken team he has done well against in the past, depending on our NHL picks.

The Toronto Maple Leafs return from Winnipeg for a date with the Seattle Kraken this evening at Scotiabank Arena.

The NHL odds are in Toronto’s favor in this game, and I’m betting that Mitch Marner and the Leafs will be successful on the power play to help get the job done tonight.

Mitch Marner More than 0.5 points on the power play (+200 at Sports Interaction)

My analysis of the Leafs

THE Toronto Maple Leafs ended its three-game losing streak with a win over the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night and now returns home to face the Seattle Kraken.

The Buds have had the advantage in this game since the Kraken entered the NHL in the 2021-22 season with a 5-1 record through six games. Toronto is averaging four goals per game in these contests and has received plenty of help from its power play. In just six games between the two clubs, the Leafs’ man advantage unit has seven goals, with a success rate of 36.6%.

This is a far cry from where the PP stands today, as the Leafs have struggled mightily to start the season, running at a modest 9.3%. However, it’s only a matter of time before the Maple Leafs get the man advantage.

They rank eighth in expected goals and fifth in high-danger chances on the man advantage this year, according to Natural Stat Trick. Eventually, those odds will diminish for the Buds, and I think tonight’s game against the Kraken might do the trick.

Toronto made adjustments to the power play after a slow start by splitting the top unit and spreading the wealth a little more between the two units. This change made the power play a little more dangerous in the Leafs’ win against the Jets on Monday.

What hasn’t changed, however, is Mitch MarnerThe role of on the first unit. The Markham, Ont., native continues to play, as he factors into all three power play goals the Leafs have scored this season, and that should continue tonight.

Overall, Marner has torched the Kraken throughout his young NHL life, scoring six goals and adding eight assists for a team-high 13 points in just six games, including four on the power play.

The shorthanded Kraken ranks 16th in the NHL and is operating at 80 percent while allowing a goal in four of its last six games. So there should be plenty of opportunities for the Maple Leafs to generate chances on the power play, and at +200, the price is right to make this my best bet.

Parlay in the same game Maple Leafs vs Kraken (SGP)

Mitch Marner 2+ shots on goal

Auston Matthews, anytime goal

Maple Leafs Money Line

For the first leg of my SGP, since power play points cannot be exploited, I will bet on Mitch Marner to get more than 2 shots on goal. He’s been much more aggressive shooting the puck this season, averaging 2.8 shots per game, but he’s hit that prop in five straight games and has made 4+ shots in three of his last four matches. Additionally, the Kraken gives up an average of 29.9 shots per game. So there is an opportunity here.

I also like Auston Matthews score a goal anytime tonight. The defending Rocket winner is shooting a modest 8.5% this season. That’s almost half of his career average. (16%). Those shots are bound to start to drop off, and he has six goals in six games against the Kraken throughout his career.

Finally, I will end the debate by taking on the Maple Leafs on the moneyline tonight. The Leafs righted the ship with a dominant performance against Winnipeg on Monday night and will look to continue that play tonight. Additionally, this bet is 5-1 all-time when the Leafs and Kraken face off, with the Leafs beating Seattle 24-16 in six games.
