Michael Kelly Talks CIA Drama Season 2, ‘The Penguin,’ ‘GI Joe’ and More (Bingeworthy Podcast)

During the interview, Kelly discussed getting her “Lioness» character from what he thought was a failed meeting with Taylor Sheridan for another project.

“I had flown to Los Angeles to meet (Taylor Sheridan) for the film with Angelina Jolie(“Those who wish me dead‘),” Kelly said. “I didn’t understand that (role), and then when they said, ‘Hey, Taylor Sheridan wants to call you to talk about this new show he’s doing,’ I was like, oh my god, yes , I love Taylor Sheridan, obviously.

“And I told him, ‘Hey man, I don’t know if you remember, but a few years ago I flew up there and met you for the moment.’and Angelina Jolie film,” Kelly continued. “And he was like, ‘Yeah, that’s why we’re talking, bro.’ He told me, “The casting director said, okay, we’re going over the roles, and she gave recommendations on who could play who, and we gave lists for each character, and she said, and for Westfield we have I have Michael Kelly. He told me, “Done, moving on,” and he said, “That’s why we’re talking now.” » So for all actors, when things don’t go the way you want them to, sometimes they end up following you.

Kelly, despite being a longtime veteran with many significant roles under his belt, also talked about how special “Lioness” feels when you’re on set with co-stars like Morgan Freeman And Nicole Kidman.

“This is arguably the best of the best sitting at this table,” Kelly said. “First I pinch myself and say, ‘I can’t believe I’m at this table,’ and then sometimes I get to confront Morgan, and this fun stuff that Nicole and I have and the backstory that we created for these two characters – we’re having a lot of fun with that, and it’s one of those pinch jobs. I’m really, really lucky to be able to do this. Like, it’s pretty crazy.

Kelly also plays an important role in Max’s “The Penguin” series, with Colin Farrell as the title character as he rises to power in Gotham City. Kelly plays high-ranking gangster Johnny Vitti alongside Farrell and explains how crazy it was to see Farrell in full Penguin makeup for the first time.

“The first time I saw (Colin’s makeup), I was so blown away,” Kelly explained. “I couldn’t believe what I was watching. Also, the first time I saw him on set, he spoke as Colin Farrell and I spoke as Michael Kelly. And then they say, “All right, guys, we’re ready. »And then we enter the (Johnny) Vitti-Penguin transition. The Vitti transition is a little easier than The Penguin transition, but he just did it. He turned around in no time and limped away. And here is the accent, and it is (The Penguin). But seeing it for the first time, I was like ‘holy shit!’ (I was) so close in person. He said to me: “Come in here. » And he said: “You will not find it. You won’t see it. As close to my face as possible. It’s crazy.

Kelly also appeared at the end of the recent “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts » as a recruiter for “G.I. Joe“, leading fans to speculate about a crossover film with “Transformers.” During the interview, Kelly opened up about how this appearance happened and if he’s heard anything about what’s next.

“They shot the movie, and then they re-shot it, and they added what was going to be a post-credits (scene). One of those little pop-up things,” Kelly said. “And then they say, ‘No, we’re going to make that the end of the movie.’ I was like, “Really?!” » So even that happened after filming. It was presented to me as a post-credit thing that if we move forward, we would like your character to do this world. That being said, I haven’t heard anything since. So maybe they didn’t like what I did, or they don’t do it, or I don’t know. I haven’t heard anything yet. I hope so. Because I would love to.
