When are my leaves collected? Follow Akron’s new collection tracker

Akron residents will soon see leaf removal crews rolling around, but how will each neighborhood know exactly when its leaves will be picked up? The city of Akron has a tracker for that.

On Tuesday, the city announced the launch of a leaf disposal dashboard to help residents follow the program. Residents can view the tracker at www.AkronOhio.gov/Leaves.

In a press release, the city said the dashboard will allow residents to track the progress made by Akron’s leaf removal crews in near real time. The map will show which services are in progress and which have been completed.

As roads are completed, they will be marked as complete on the map. Residents will be able to enter their address to see which neighborhood they are in and whether or not their street is already serviced.

When does leaf removal begin?

Leaf removal starts Monday November 4 in Ward 5. Each neighborhood will take several days and signs will be posted in neighborhoods prior to pickup dates.

The city said the schedule could be changed if adverse weather conditions prohibit removal. Changes to the schedule will be posted on Akron’s social media channels and on the leaf pick-up page of the website. For more information on leaf removal, visit Leaf Removal Program on the City’s website or call 3-1-1.

Can I have my leaves collected after the scheduled collection date?

Residents who wish to have their leaves removed after the scheduled collection date can make a request at 3-1-1 and collect their leaves at the curb, but not in the street. Leaf-clearing crews will respond to these requests in mid-December, when time and weather conditions permit, after going through all neighborhoods once, the city said.

Additionally, Akron offers three free bulk pickup services per year. Leaves should be bagged for bulk collection. To schedule, please contact 3-1-1, go online to akronohio.gov/311 or download the Akron311 app.

What else to know about Akron’s leaf removal program:

The City reminded residents to adhere to the following guidelines so that leaf disposal can be safe and effective:

  • Rake leaves within two feet of the curb the day before scheduled collection to prevent leaves from accumulating in storm drains.

  • Do not let children play in leaves in or near the street.

  • Do not place branches or other debris in the street – only leaves.

  • Do not rake the leaves into the street once they have been removed, otherwise you will be fined.

  • Do not park vehicles on the street the day before pick-up or until your leaves are removed.

  • Do not park a vehicle on the pile of leaves, as heat from underneath the vehicle could cause a fire.
