Traffic and students affected by Peace River fire

People were asked to avoid the north end of the Peace River on Wednesday due to a large structure fire.

The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in the area of 77th Avenue.

An evacuation center has been set up for evacuees at the Baytex Energy Center at 9810 73 Ave.

Students at Springfield Elementary School and Good Shepherd School were also affected.

The Peace River School Division Transportation Department said it was unable to get buses to Springfield Elementary School due to the fires.

Alternative arrangements have been made for most students, but officials said all students who normally take the bus to a daycare would have to be picked up by a parent.

There is no information on injuries caused by the fire.

Peace River is approximately 490 kilometers north of Edmonton.
