Lady Tigers finish undefeated in league, await regionals – Canon City Daily Record

Heading into Tuesday night’s regular season finale against Palmer, the Cañon City volleyball team had already secured a regional berth as CSML South champions, but there was still meat left on the table. ‘bone. A win against Palmer at home would give the Lady Tigers a perfect run in the league.

Cañon got off to a strong start, earning a 25-16 victory in the first set. The Lady Tigers were even better in the second set, winning 25-12. The third went the same way as the first, with CCHS completing the sweep, 25-16.

The trio of Ashlynn Quinn, Olivia Ley and Tillie Reid recorded 27 of the team’s 37 kills on the night, with each credited with nine. Kielyn Hand totaled four, while Zoey McCollum and Kamryn John added two each. K. John delivered 15 assists and Sol Manjarrez added a dozen. Quinn (three), Manjarrez (two) and Lauryn Vineyard (two) combined for seven of Canon’s 10 aces.

Hand led the net defense with two solo blocks, while Ley and Averi Mulso had one each. The final line was led by Raegen John with 19 digs. Quinn recorded 13 digs and K. John added 10. Reid contributed nine; Manjarrez, six years old; Mulso and Ley, three each; and Vineyard, two.

CCHS finished the regular season at 20-3, with a 10-0 record in the CSML South. As of Wednesday morning, the Lady Tigers were ranked 18th in the CHSAA Selection and Ranking Index. Their league championship guarantees them a place in the regional table, but they will have to wait until Monday to find out where they will play, when the tables are revealed.

The junior team finished its schedule at 18-1 with a three-set victory on Tuesday. Palmer took a 28-26 victory in the first, but the Lady Tigers responded with wins of 25-15 and 15-11. Aubree Dell had six kills, while Ava Shelver had five kills. Zafa Koehn and Samantha Klein added four each.

Cañon’s C team finished a 17-2 season with a sweep of the Lady Terrors. The Lady Tigers got a combined 17 kills from Kaylee Nidey (seven), Brielle Gifford (six) and Maddie Tor (four) in the 25-19, 25-20 victory. Penelope LeDoux and Ashlynn Beene recorded seven and six assists, respectively.

Florence dominates Manitou Springs for resounding victory

In their final Tri-Peaks championship match of the season, the Florence Lady Huskies recorded a three-set sweep on the road against Manitou Springs. After winning the first set 25-19, FHS won the next two by identical scores of 25-20.

The win gave the Lady Huskies a 5-7 record in the league, placing them eighth in the standings. They improved to 10-10 overall, with only the Crowley County Tournament Saturday remaining. Florence will open Saturday’s event with a match against Kim/Branson.
