Irwindale Speedway and Dragstrip to close after 25 years

IRWINDALE, Calif. (KABC) — Sad news for local racing fans: Irwindale Speedway and Dragstrip will close at the end of the year.

The closure, planned for the end of the 2024 season, was announced on Tuesday. For 25 years, the beloved motorsports center has hosted NASCAR races, demolition derbies and drag races, as well as Formula Drift events.

“Irwindale is more than just a track: it is a home and gathering place for racing fans from around the world,” said Tim Huddleston, president of Irwindale Speedway. & Event Center Inc., in a press release. “On behalf of my wife Lisa and our partners Bob and Maureen Bruncati, we sincerely thank our fans, our riders, our sponsors and the city of Irwindale for their unwavering support over the past 25 years. We are grateful for every moment and memory that we shared as a community.

Despite the closure, the track will continue. Its assets and events will move to Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in Bakersfield for 2025.

The track is set to host a grand farewell extravaganza on December 21. Tickets for this will be available to purchase from Friday 8 November.
