Best PUBG settings for maximum fps

What are the best PUBG settings? The battle royale genre innovator has changed a lot over the past seven years, meaning the settings you used at launch may no longer be suitable.

Given how long PUBG exists, you will not need the best graphics card to run it, but getting great performance and high fps is crucial to winning those tense 1v1 fights. We’ve put together a handy guide to ensure you’re using the best possible settings for your gaming PC.

Best PUBG graphics settings

  • Rendering scale: 100
  • FPP field of view: 103
  • Overall graphics quality: Custom
  • Antialiasing: Ultra
  • Post-processing: High
  • Shadows: Weak
  • Textures: Ultra
  • Viewing distance: High
  • Sharpen: Disable
  • Synchronization V: Disabled
  • Motion blur: Disable
  • DirectX version: DirectX 11 improved

Reducing the rendering scale decreases the clarity of your game, so we recommend sticking to the default value of 100, which means the game will render according to the selected resolution. For your FFP field of view value, this should be as high as possible in order to see as much of the screen as possible. Reducing this value may improve your performance, but only slightly.

As for anti-aliasing, this is perhaps the most contested PUBG graphics setting. We recommend setting this setting to ultra, but be wary of framerate drops between setting levels and judge whether the lag isn’t worth it. If you’re having trouble getting solid performance at 60fps, you can gradually remove the suggested settings until you’re happy with your performance.

In order to see everything clearly in the game, increase the textures to ultra. Keep your view distance high to maximize your ability to see enemies from afar, but this can be reduced to medium if performance becomes an issue. You’ll want to turn off the sharpening option because it conflicts with antialiasing and these two settings don’t work well with each other. Keep V-Sync disabled unless you’re experiencing screen tearing, but be aware that this may impact your performance. Always turn off motion blur, this setting may look nice, but it comes with a performance hit. Finally, use DirectX 11 Enhanced because DX12 is still considered unstable.

Best PUBG Controls and Game Settings

  • Mouse sensitivity: Default
  • Rendering of inventory characters: Disabled
  • Reticle color: White
  • Default firing mode: Fully automatic
  • Automatically equip and replace accessories: Enable
  • Additional Actions Queue: Enable
  • Replay and death camera: Enable

As with most competitive games, the general advice from high-level gamers is to lower your mouse sensitivity below the default if you have trouble controlling recoil. This is entirely down to personal preference, so don’t let that put you off if you’re using high mouse sensitivity settings. Rendering your character in inventory doesn’t cause much lag, but we’ve kept this setting disabled to avoid any unnecessary frame rate drops.

Another personal preference option: choose the reticle color you find most visible. The default firing mode is a very important option, you’re going to want to set it to fully automatic. This is generally the best mode to engage an enemy immediately after picking up the weapon. Likewise, enable automatic equipping and replacement of attachments to save you time on the battlefield. We recommend enabling additional action queuing, this allows you to record a new action before the current action completes. Finally, it never hurts to keep the replay and death camera on to learn from your mistakes.

Best PUBG Settings from Playerunknown's Battlegrounds: The Audio Menu in PUBG Settings

Best PUBG audio settings

  • Lobby music: Disabled
  • Weapon sound effects: Legacy
  • HRTF (Head Related Transfer Function): Enabled

It’s up to you if you want to hear PUBG lobby music, at least you can choose your favorite song while waiting in the lobby. For weapon sound effects, it depends on your preferences. If you’ve been playing PUBG for a long time, you might want to stick with legacy audio. Definitely enable HRTF as this audio setting makes tracking enemies much easier.

How we test PUBG

At PCGamesN, we use dedicated gaming rigs to test the best performance and gameplay settings in the latest releases. The test bench used for PUBG includes the following components: Intel Core i7 11700F, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 12 GB, 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM, MSI B560 motherboard. We are also testing with Widows 11 64-bit.

We always run our tests first at 1920 x 1080 to identify the best settings, then again at 2560 x 1440 using the same configuration to assess the difference in performance. We use CapFrameX to capture frame data and compare test sessions.

How to Monitor Performance in PUBG

If you want to keep an eye on performance in PUBG, we have a simple method that works whether you’re using an Nvidia or AMD graphics card.

For Nvidia cards, make sure GeForce Experience or the Nvidia app is installed and in-game overlay is enabled. Then press Alt + R in-game to bring up your performance monitor. With AMD cards, you can enable performance monitoring via the Radeon overlay using the Ctrl + Shift + O shortcut.

You can also download free software like CapFrameX or Nvidia FrameView to get a cleaner, more simplified benchmarking tool that works with any graphics card.

If you need to upgrade your hardware to start playing PUBG, follow our handy guide at how to build a gaming pcwhich guides you step by step through the process, from start to finish.
