The next wave of cleanliness

In today’s fast-paced world, where convenience and time-saving solutions are essential, laundry detergent innovation has become a key focus for the industry. As households seek more efficient, fabric-friendly, and environmentally friendly options for their laundry needs, manufacturers are rising to the challenge. The latest advances in laundry detergent formulas go beyond basic cleaning and stain removal and also contribute to a more sustainable future.

Detergent manufacturers incorporate advanced formulas and specialized ingredients into their products to meet different consumer needs. There are detergents designed specifically for tough stains, color protection, and even for cold or quick wash cycles. In Bangladesh, there are currently two main variants of laundry detergent, namely washing powder and liquid laundry detergent, each of which offers different benefits.

In this regard, Md. Shadman Sadikin, Marketing Director, Home Care, Unilever Bangladesh Limited, said, “Powder detergents, like Surf Excel, are suitable for removing stubborn stains and can be used in hand washing as well. than in washing machines. Rin Liquid and Surf Excel Matic liquid detergents are more suitable for washing machines due to their faster dissolution and reduced residue.

Stains can be a laundry nightmare, but recent innovations make tackling stubborn messes easier. New enzyme technologies are being developed to target specific types of stains, from protein spills like blood and sweat to oil-based marks from food and grease. These types of organic laundry detergents are based on lipase and protease enzymes. Lipases break down fats and oils, while proteases work to break down protein chains. Their ability to break down these compounds makes them exceptional for stain removal. Thanks to these enzymes, organic products also work effectively at lower temperatures, helping to save energy while providing exceptional cleaning results.

Md. Quamrul Hassan, Chief Commercial Officer, ACI Consumer Brands, remarked, “We have incorporated TAED (tetraacetylethylenediamine) and a blend of four enzymes such as protease, lipase, amylase and mannanase in our products. These enzymes work together to effectively tackle tough stains, especially those from protein, fat and oil, and work exceptionally well even in cold water. By breaking down these substances at their source, our product provides a deep, thorough clean.

Advanced laundry detergents also ensure that different types of fabrics maintain their softness and shine after washing. Detergents such as Rin, ACI Supreme and Redy specialize in keeping brightness intact with active color protection formulations. Dr. AQM Mohiuddin, Managing Director, Radiant Care Limited, said, “We have introduced active color protection technology with advanced enzymes and brightness boosters in Redy Detergent Powder. Our active ingredients ensure that colors remain vibrant even after multiple washes, allowing people to enjoy their favorite clothes for long periods of time.

Another brand, Orix, launched the first textile shampoo produced in Bangladesh for delicate garments like silk, georgette or chiffon. Ahsraful Ambia, Managing Director and CEO of Remark HB Ltd. added: “Our detergent factory uses the latest technology from Germany and India, combined with an Italian-inspired system, to ensure precise and uniform mixing. -high-performance detergents that not only protect fabrics but also protect users’ hands, aligning with Orix’s “Gentle on Hands” product characteristic.

With growing concerns about the impact of laundry detergents on the environment, many consumers are seeking products free of harsh chemicals. Producers are responding by developing eco-friendly, biodegradable formulas that break down naturally, minimizing pollution and waste. These formulations often rely on plant-derived surfactants and natural enzymes, which are just as effective as traditional chemicals in removing stains and odors. These eco-friendly products resonate with environmentally conscious consumers looking to make a positive impact.

“Our company takes environmental concerns seriously and prioritizes safer chemical compositions in our detergents. We use biodegradable chemicals, environmentally friendly surfactants, and non-toxic, allergen-free additives to ensure our products are both effective and environmentally friendly. “We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint while delivering powerful cleaning performance. By choosing our eco-friendly detergent, you can enjoy a clean home and a healthier planet,” commented ACI’s Hassan.

Industry insiders anticipate further significant innovations in future products. Liquid detergents will likely be used more widely across the country in the coming years, according to Unilever’s Dr. Shadman Sadikin. In many countries, liquid detergents, tablets and pods are popular options. Companies are closely monitoring these trends and exploring practical ways to integrate a new generation of products into their offerings.

“The industry will integrate globally popular products into the local market, making advanced fabric care accessible to all. Possible exciting developments could be concentrated liquid detergents, laundry detergent pods, allowing consumers to get clothes clean easily and hassle-free,” Hassan said. of the ACI. He also said dry wash solutions could be introduced for households, which is currently more common in laundries, providing a specialist option for delicate fabrics. Overall, the focus of future innovations will be on making laundry more efficient, more environmentally friendly and more user-friendly for everyone.
