A cross-border smuggling racket came to light on Sunday with the arrest of two associates of a Turkey-based drug trafficker and the seizure of 105 kg of heroin. Six weapons were also seized during the operation.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that during follow-up investigations into the seizure of 105 kg of heroin, police arrested Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Chakoki in Kapurthala, and recovered 6 kg of heroin. heroin in his possession. The police teams also impounded his car Hyundai Aura (HR26FF4067).

The development came a day after the counter-intelligence (CI) wing of the Amritsar police busted a cross-border smuggling racket after arresting two associates of drug peddler Nav Bhullar and recovering 105 kg of heroin, 31.93 kg of caffeine anhydrous and 17 kg of dextromethorphan (DMR) and six weapons in their possession.

The DGP said that during investigation, the Amritsar CI found that Lovepreet had received a huge consignment of heroin from Rajasthan, which he planned to supply to his associates based in Punjab.

Police teams led by DSP (CI Amritsar) Balbir Singh established a checkpoint in Umranangal Morh village area along Jalandhar-Amritsar GT road and apprehended Lovepreet after recovering 6 kg of heroin in his car.

The DGP said preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested accused had collected a consignment of heroin from Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan and was going to deliver it to drug peddler Navjot Singh, who was arrested with 105 kg of heroin.

He said the arrested accused would be interrogated to gather more information about the supply chain and its links with the drug trafficking network. Further investigations are underway to establish backward and forward links in this case.

A new case has been registered under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar.
