This new electric vehicle parking lot in Burnaby is among the largest in the world

Nearly 2,000 parking spaces have been designated for residential use with 24/7 access to electric vehicle charging.

A new underground parking garage in Burnaby, which provides 24/7 access to electric vehicle charging, is the largest in the world, according to Concord Pacific.

The parking system includes 1,974 spaces at Concord Pacific’s four Hillside Towers, located 4720, 4730, 4880 and 4890 Lougheed Road.

The lots, Concord Pacific explained, are powered by electrical infrastructure capable of simultaneously powering all electricity access points.

“This step is consistent with our long-standing commitment to sustainable future communities,” Terry Hui, CEO of Concord Pacific Group and Concord Green Energy, said in a press release.

“We have a portfolio of wind, solar and hydroelectric projects that has grown significantly over the past 15 years and has now expanded to five provinces. Creating infrastructure like this helps close the loop on sustainable transportation options.

The spaces are divided into two distinct cores under the towers, comprising 1,039 charging points under the west tower and 935 under the east tower.

Each has two distinct entry points, the cores of which are between eight and nine storeys below Lougheed Street level.

“This new electric vehicle parking lot is what we are aiming for in Burnaby. Achieving carbon neutrality is a community-wide effort that includes Burnaby residents and businesses, and it’s great to see Concord moving forward with this development,” added Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley.

“Making it easier for people to drive electric vehicles, cycle or take public transport will help us reduce carbon emissions and achieve our climate goals faster. »

Concord Pacific says each connection in the towers is monitored individually and each residence that subscribes is billed solely based on the power consumed.
