Man stabbed by truck driver after yelling at him to slow down: Winnipeg police

A 45-year-old man had to be hospitalized after Winnipeg police say he was stabbed by the driver of a stolen truck after yelling at him to slow down.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the victim was smoking outside his Magnus Avenue apartment with a friend on Saturday around 9:08 p.m. when a truck sped by.

“When the victim shouted to slow down, the truck stopped. An unknown person got out, stabbed the victim and fled in the vehicle,” police say.

Police said officers arrived and found the victim seriously injured in the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

WPS says officers spotted the truck — which they believe had been stolen from a home on Manitoba Avenue — around 2 a.m. Sunday while driving in the Weston area.

“Police attempted a traffic stop, but the truck took off and became stuck on the railroad tracks on Gallagher Avenue near Electra Street,” WPS said in a news release.

A female passenger was taken into custody, according to police, but the driver fled.

Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit have identified a suspect and a warrant has been filed for his arrest.
